Getting ALAR ready to fly!

While there has been snow in the air over the past few days, we have been getting ALAR ready for research flights out of Barrow!  The Purdue ALAR (Aircraft Laboratory for Atmospheric Research) is being outfitted to measure three-dimensional winds, ozone, size-resolved particle concentrations and BrO (via MAX-DOAS, Multi-Axis Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy).  The BrO measurements are being made in collaboration with Prof. Ulrich Platt's group from the University of Heidelberg.
Brian Stirm (Purdue aircraft mechanic), Prof. Paul Shepson (Purdue pilot), graduate student Stephan General (Univ. of Heidelberg), and Research Assistant Dr. Denis Pöhler (Univ. of Heidelberg) preparing ALAR for research flights
